LGBTIQA+ Suicide Postvention Response Plan: Preliminary Findings (Report)

Switchboard Victoria's (Australia) report, LGBTIQA+ Community and Peer-led Suicide Postvention Response Plan: Preliminary Findings (2020), presents the results of their research study and guidelines for LGBTIQA+ communities and peer organizations engaged in providing postvention support following the suicide death of an LGBTIQA+ individual. This report provides direction for organizations seeking a better understanding of postvention practices within LGBTIQA+ communities and offers insights to guide the implementation of culturally specific postvention initiatives. It is intended to be helpful for the LGBTIQA+ community and peer-led organizations, government policymakers, and those involved in postvention planning at the local community level. The reflections presented may also provide valuable insights for mental health and peer workers supporting LGBTIQA+ individuals bereaved by suicide.

This report is for anyone who has been through what I have been through, it’s for all those who have lost a LGBTIQA+ person they know to suicide. Principally, it is for those who need to actively respond to a suicide either as a community leader, employer, colleague, friend or as a (chosen) family member.
